Only 3 ads can be included in a webpage so we must be precise in placing ads on websites. Some days ago, I came to know of two most fruitful locations for ads that gives better click through rates (CTRs.).

Depending on the blog design, here we discuss two ad layouts. If you’re running a blogging site, its advisable to switch to any of the below mentioned ad layouts to increase the CTR upto 5-10 times.

Homepage

Homepage of blogging websites displays a list of blogs so we must place ads where its better perceived by visitors,

  1. One 728 x 90 banner (text and image) at the top of blog list.
  2. Second 728 x 90 banner (text and image) in the middle of the blog list is advisable. Place this one after 4-5 blogs from top considering the length of your webpage.
  3. On left side, include a 160 x 600 ad unit (text and image) just below the navigation that mainly includes category/tags and other info like social media links and plugins.

Placing ads in left placed content in a blog page

Its the page that displays a blog. The best practice is to place,

  1. A 336 x 280 rectangle ad (text and image) within the content and just below the blog title.
  2. The second ad should be placed just after the content and before comments, here you can also opt for a 336 x 280 rectangular ad unit (image) . Trying 728 x 90 banner can also be useful in many cases.
  3. Left side should have a 160 x 600 (text and image) wide skyscrapper.

2. Content aligned left with sidebar on right.

  3. Include another 300 x 250 ad unit (text and image) just below the navigation. Alternatives could be 336 x 280, 160 x 600 ad unit if your size of homapage can accommodate.

Placing ads in left placed blog content

The most common layout where blog content is aligned to left, sidebar on right. The best revenue gaining layout is,

  1. A 336 x 280 rectangle ad (text and image) embedded in the content, just below the title. You can try 300 x 250 and 200 x 200 rectangle depending on the width of the section.
  2. The second ad should be placed just after the content and before comments, here you can opt for 336 x 280 rectangular ad unit (text and image). Giving a try to 728 x 90 banner is not a bad idea too.
  3. Right side should have a 300 x 250 rectangle (text and image).

In the blog page, don’t forget to place a 25 px spacing between content and ad. It’s not mandatory but its a preventive measure to keep account safe from termination. AdSense policy clearly states that visitors should clearly understand the difference between website content and Google ads.
